DCS200mi and DCS200ci with Ni-Cd batteries issue

Post by Multifot »

Hello!
I have DCS200mi and DCS200ci for a long time (since 2011 as i remember).
1. DCS200mi was in a good working order some years ago and i ran it with AA Ni-Mh or regular 1.5v AA batteries sometimes.
But now camera’s behavior is a bit strange: it doesn’t show a full of charge on LCD (only one bar) with fully charged batteries, some times charge indicator shows animation like it takes charge from AC adaptor now, also taking pictures is not perfect: sometimes internal HDD starts, but it can’t record an image.
I thought i have a power consumption issue and have bought a fresh set of Ni-Cd 1000mah batteries to test this option according User manual from Kodak. Also battery holder was repared in 2011 with new electrical contacts and i think it possibly has not perfect batteries contact, but it shows 7.7-7.8v with fresh charged Ni-Cd batteries on it. If i touch battery holder inserted LCD blinks and shows different symbols, some times “399”. I’ve tried to bent “positive”/“negative” electrical contacts in a different position, but no luck, only differ camera behavior after it (LCD blinks, or no power up etc)
2. DCS200ci, i don’t remember if it was in a working order, but with the same battery holder and fresh Ni-Cd batteries LCD shows only “399” and HDD bars in a different order. No HDD sound at all.

Any ideas? Bad electric contact with battery holder/inside battery compartment or any electrical issues with camera back?

Hi! if the camera is failing to initialize beware of failing tantalum capacitors, i've had them on two NC2000s and a DCS100, when they fail they go short and can damage other components, don't stress the electronics, be sure to check for shorted caps before going further
Kodak NC2000e - Nikon D1x - Kodak DCS 14/n - Fujifilm Finepix S2Pro - Nikon D750 - Sony A200 - Sony NEX-3

Hi, thank you!
tantalum capacitors are really terrible due to degradation during time. Will try to replace faulty.
