Who made the image sensor of the D1?

Post by spreefurt »

I cannot find a hint, who built the image sensor of the D1 (and D1H and D1X). It is known, that Nikon used Sony sensors later (beginning with the D100), but the special design of the D1 sensor is not known from any other camera. Does anyone know the developer and manufacturer of the sensor of the D1?

SONY designed/made it, with Nikon's specifications. As they have been doing ever since.

Do you have a source for this statement? The name "Sony" does not appear there, neither in the other page nor in the linked Nikon page (the current address is http://imaging.nikon.com/products/imagi ... /index.htm). Sony did not design all Nikon sensors, the sensor of D2H/D2Hs and D3/D700 are Nikon designs.
