Re: Kodak DCS 460 SCSI Port Disassembly

The color wheel was controlled by the camera through the 7 pin connector that's also used for the power connection. I only know that from reading documentation, though... and I can't find the pinout documentation I saw previously that included color wheel drive pin details for that connector. Digita...

Re: Question about Kodak DCS 5xx/6xx/7xx Batteries

Thank you, Stan. I was looking for the input specifications for the Ault slant top charger, but it looks like it's close to the same. The requested PW-162 adapter is rated at 16v 1.6a I thought it was a bit high for a 7.2v battery, but my 16v Panasonic laptop adapter works well. The adapter with my...

Re: Question about Kodak DCS 5xx/6xx/7xx Batteries

Kodak never went with the tempermental Li Ion batteries, so there was never a charger for them. Not in those models, but they did in the 14n and SLR/n and c. And there is a charger for them that is unimaginitively called "Kodak Professional DCS Pro 14n Charger / AC Adapter". The associate...

Re: Photo Secretary for DCS-760?

OK. Photo Secretary is mostly unobtanium. However, there was a comparable, but newer, and nicer, product called Meta35. I bought a copy of Meta35, which came with a USB to Nikon 10 pin cable. Meta35 connects right up to my F5, and allows me to set things like the camera ID and custom features like w...

Re: Photons to Photos has the SLR/n up now

If one of you who has an SLR 14n could provide Bill with test shots for that camera, that would be great. I wonder how much of the difference in IQ between these cameras is down to this baked in NR.

Photons to Photos has the SLR/n up now

Interesting how that played out. Apparently Kodak baked in noise reduction for all raws.

Compared to the 5D, which shipped a year later: https://www.photonstophotos.net/Charts/ ... Pro%20SLRn

The 5D definitely does better across the board.

Photo Secretary for DCS-760?

Does Photo Secretary provide additional customizations for the F5-based cameras over what it available from the Kodak menus?

Also, for extra credit, anyone have information on a DIY MC-33 cable?

Re: Smudge on DCS760c raws

It is advisable that if you never worked inside a camera you start with another less important one, they all have a similar construction. I would definitely disagree with that statement. Purpose built digital SLRs are fairly different from composites like the 760, which are different again from the...

Re: Smudge on DCS760c raws

The 760 doesn't have a "back" like the 4xx and earlier cameras. It's more like the 14 and SLR models in that it has a heavily integrated set of digital parts in a replacement lower case.

Re: Smudge on DCS760c raws

Recalibrating the camera and running with the CCD disconnected sound like tasks that require access to service documentation and tools that I don't have. Any idea where to get DCS service manuals?

Re: Kodak and Nikon joint DSLR venture

It's actually quite heroic what Kodak did, they knew how risky was going digital and how Nikon and Canon had the muscle to crush them. It would be quite a smarter move going the Sony route producing the imagers and leaving the camera market to the camera makers. It's so good to know about Jim. Ther...

Re: Kodak and Nikon joint DSLR venture

I wonder if Minolta would have been available for sale in 1999 or so. Pentax might have been, but they didn't have the AF lenses that Minolta did.

Re: Smudge on DCS760c raws

They are dark frames. That is part of the PDR evaluation process. In this case, body cap on, viewfinder shutter closed, 1/8000th at base ISO.

Smudge on DCS760c raws

I was capturing some PDR shots for Bill Claff and noticed this "smudge" in the middle of raw dark frames and underexposed frames. This is what they look like in Google Drive (both the previews and if you open the images there). If I import one of the DCRs into Lightroom, I don't see the sm...

Cameraosity Podcast #46

Where they talk about vintage digital cameras. Interesting to me some of the things they had trouble with that some of the forum members here have worked around.
