Re: Handled Leica S2 and X1 today
Any comments on X1's autofocus performance? ..... I'm sure the X1 is a great little camera, but I'm not yet convinced it's worth the premium price. Jarle Apart from the pricepoint the X1 is the small camera with DSLR image quality I have been looking after since the launch of the original Sigma DP1...

Re: Handled Leica S2 and X1 today
Any comments on X1's autofocus performance? I'm quite tempted to switch my D90 + 35/1.8 DX to it. Too bad it doesn't have movie mode at all.

Re: Affordable full frame 24.5 megapixel camera from Sony
D3X image quality for 1/4 money. Seems like DSLRs have evolved to a point where image quality in general is the same (as it was with film cameras when using same film) and you pay only for the features. Nikon is due to introduce D700X with the same sensor, but I bet it isn't going to be under $4000/...

Re: Flash trigger voltages with Kodak DCS bodies
You can use this comprehensive list as guide: http://www.botzilla.com/photo/strobeVolts.html
IIRC the F5 had it's synch terminal rated to max. 250 V and hot shoe to 12 V, while some say that also hot shoe would stand 250 volts.

Re: DCS 500/600/700 battery/power info (NikonWeb article)
I'm charging all my NiMH batteries (DCS 760, DCS 420 and Nikon D1x) every 1-2 months based on some online knowledge, but I was pondering if this is completely waste of time and even harmfull for the batteries in long run in contrast to that situation where batteries are charged only when they really...

Re: DCS 500/600/700 battery/power info (NikonWeb article)
Nice and informative article, thanks. After reading it I remembered that I have one dead battery that was left in the camera for too long. Using a healthy battery pack and two paper clips I was able to "jump start" it and it's now charging. My personal record in terms of battery life was j...

Re: Kodak DCS 420 GPS
A PLGR receiver (as a former user I can also tell that these are far from "lightweight" units by modern standards. ;)) uses normal RS-232 connection with standard NMEA-0183 as computer interface. With DCS420 you're going to use "Multipurpose connector" on the back of the camera (...

Re: Kodak DCS 760m on eBay -- $9000!
... Based on what I have read about Sigma's Foveon sensor, I suspect that the resolution from the Canon 1Ds mentioned above, when converted to black and white, would still be greater than that of the 760m, but it would be an interesting comparison. Based on my hands-on experiences with Sigma DP-1 a...

Re: Kodak DCS 460
It is also notable that F/N90 doesn't offer ability to user to control aperture if lens doesn't have aperture ring. It means that G-lenses are usable only in P and S exposure modes where camera controls aperture. In A and M aperture stays in whatever the smallest in particular lens is (mostly F/22-F...

Also the batteries from 500/600/700 series are very easy to re-cell. Inside there are 6 4/5 -size NiMH/NiCD cells and the battery casing is easy to open. My local battery dealer does one for about 30 euros.

Re: Exciting historical info from Kodak - incl. prod. numbers!
Monochrome version of the 14n-family sensor would be something! It would solve the to biggest weaknesses of this sensor - color moire and color noise. 14 megapixel monosensor without aa-filter would produce very sharp images without so much jaggies. And it should exist! But was it ever sold regular...

Re: Exciting historical info from Kodak - incl. prod. numbers!
The CIR-version of the 400-series was something very unique, as it was build to reproduce output of the classic Kodak Ektachrome IR false color film. This isn't so easy with digital sensors as the color filter array must be such that IR-channel isn't polluted by red color and wise versa. False color...
