Kodak DCS 560 plays pong

Post by Ashley_Pomeroy »

I finally got around to achieving one of my life goals yesterday, by filming the Pong game in the DCS 560 (and 520 as well):

As you can see, I got an early lead, but let one through shortly afterwards and then the fight just drained out of me. Exactly like the England vs USA match.

I've also documented the "burst mode", which is really unfair because it wasn't meant to do that:

Alas I no longer have my DCS 460, which would have been even funnier. CLICK, pause, CLICK, pause... pause... pause... pause... (fade out)

There are lots of videos on Youtube of people showing off the speed of their new digital SLR, including this one:

He might be a great guy. But the video does him no favours.

Funny stuff. Thanks for sharing. Imagine the Kodak engineers having a ball developing this thing!

When we did the 620, I wanted a different game that would work with the 4 way rocker instead of the 520's dial, so I had Tetris coded and working before I found out that the owners are very strict about licensing. I put in the image tile puzzle instead. Very disappointing...

The camera accepts firmware updates - and you've said the code existed. Might not exist any more. I assume there isn't space on the screen for the classic Pac-Man layout, and it would be the wrong shape anyway.

What was the camera coded in, anyway? C, or some kind of Kodak thing, or assembly language... ADA?

No, I didn't save the Tetris code.

Starting with the 520, the DCS firmware was all written in C.

Earlier camera firmware was in PL/M, Intel's language for microcontrollers.
