Re: Unfortunate DCS 760 problem
In fact I now just get black frames. The heart of an immense darkness. The corrupted images above were the last things the camera saw as it died in my hands. A glimpse into the electronic afterlife. Perhaps those purple wavey lines are the shadows of electronic angels. The body still functions but t...

Re: Unfortunate DCS 760 problem
Thanks for the quick reply. I've tried resetting the camera, but it just seems to turn off the custom functions and revert the Nikon F5 portion of the machine to programmed auto, centre focus point, no exposure compensation etc. The manual explains it in a bit more detail; it doesn't affect the digi...

Unfortunate DCS 760 problem
I spoke too soon. The "not sure if it works, no battery or charger" DCS 760 that I bought recently seems to have gone wobbly. It worked fine for a week, and I shot a few hundred images, but now I get this: http://img85.imageshack.us/img85/9004/bugger.jpg That's a string of eight shots in q...

Re: Kodak nc2000e gallery on Flickr
I briefly had a DCS 420, and I have to say that the NC2000e - based on these samples - seems much better. The colours look relatively normal, and they're more consistent across the frame, although in a few of the images there looks to be a purple cast leaking in from the left side. The shot of the f...

Re: Bargin of the Month
That's pretty good, and there's a certain thrill in owning something that used to cost $20,000+. I've only ever seen one DCS 660 on eBay before, I surmise they didn't sell in huge numbers. Along similar lines I have just got hold of a DCS 760, which arrived yesterday. It was one of those "no ch...

Re: DCS prices on the rise
I remember, shortly before this site's article about the 720X went up, there were two separate auctions for 720Xs with a "buy it now" price of $700+, and I think a pair of 620xes from Israel for about twice that. Dunno if they sold. In general it seems that buyers now describe the DCS came...

Re: World Press Photo winners announced
Odd choice. This is one of those photographs that doesn't mean a thing unless you know the context behind it. And even if you do know the context it's just not very striking. The photo doesn't make me wonder about the people in it, and I don't feel anything. I'm sure it was extremely hard to get the...

Re: Issues about E2N
I believe it (D1X) will work with larger cards too - it just can't make use of the extra memory (I can check and verify this later, if needed). Correction: The D1X will not work with cards larger than 2GB. I was able to format a 4GB Sandisk Extreme III card in the camera, but the D1X won't trigger....

Re: Shots with the DCS200ir
Wow, those are really good - much smoother than I was expecting. I remember seeing some other samples taken with one of the IR cameras in an earlier thread, and they looked very grainy. Does the camera meter accurately, or did you have to guess?

Are you aware of the "Intelligent Chip"? It's a piece of plastic with some dots on it; and when you rest this on top of your CD player, it improves the sound of the CDs: http://www.6moons.com/audioreviews/photoncannons/photoncannons.html "The Intelligent Chip works by having one to th...

Re: Kodak DCS 100 sample photo
Yet further proof - if more proof is needed - that a camera is nothing without a pretty girl. And foliage. On a more serious level, and based on the previous picture in his portfolio, it looks as if the camera wasn't too hot with highlights. And it look as though the DCS EOS 5 had just as much troub...

DCS 560 ("Spirit Creature Not Wearing the Shape of a Man")
Earlier today I spent a good few hours photographing Ulorin Vex, who is on the internet. Most of the time I used a Canon 5D fitted with a Contax-Yashica Carl Zeiss 50mm f/1.7, but for about an hour I used my Kodak DCS 560, which I brought along as a kind of novelty backup. As before I am genuinely a...

Re: DCS 560 Infrared
This is fascinating - I've just been experimenting with DCRaw and it does genuinely appear that the -b trick mentioned by Ross works! Or at the least it can produce the illusion of extra detail. I didn't doubt him for a moment, mind you. Contemplate the following 100% crops from the middle of an ima...

Re: DCS 560 Infrared
Damn those buckets. DPReview's review of the DCS 620X has a lot of stuff about how the Kodak sensors were "full frame" (rather than "interleave transfer") but my brain seized up as I read the words and looked at the pictures, and what does it matter anyway. It is how it is. If th...

DCS 560 Infrared
I was curious to see how sensitive my DCS 560 is to infrared and whether I could produce infrared photographs. The older DCS 460 I used to own tended to make everything look very pink, but I never really tried any intentional infrared photography with it because (a) the camera didn't have a screen, ...
