Re: Xena filter image quality and colour rendition

Hi, The yellow cast was pretty much just annoying. In Photoshop, I could get it out and then not like some other colors in the shot. That wasn't bad using it for night auto racing. Those folks were happy with any pictures taken. If I got the car color close to right, they were happy. For my wife's p...

Re: Xena filter image quality and colour rendition

Hi, Sorry for the delay. This site sees so little use these days that I rarely check in. Yes, there is a difference. The normal sensors use RGB dyes in the CFA. The Xena sensors use CYM. In other words a single layer of color for each filter in the CFA as opposed to two colors per. This gives you le...

Re: Diffraction on Pro14n?

Hi, Well, the 1D issue wasn't too bad. It tended to show up when shooting existing light indoors with a lamp in the shot. Otherwise it was pretty decent. I got one because I had picked up a used 1Ds from a friend and so bought a couple Canon lenses to go with. Even though I mostly used Nikon manual ...

Re: Diffraction on Pro14n?

Hi, It was the Canon 1D, 4 MP APS-H, that had a bleed issue. Worst of the bunch. Since it was a CCD, it bled in a streak rather than a blob. And, they were different since they read even lines to the right and odd lines to the left to increase reading speed. Well, it was a sports camera. Anyway, a b...

Re: Diffraction on Pro14n?

Hi, They made a lot of the 1.3 MP units over several models, in both Nikon and Canon. That basic design allowed Kodak to simply buy a film body and stick their digital back on. I only had one like that, a 460, which was the first APS-H 6 MP. Had that alongside a Nikon E2. This was when everyone was ...

Re: Diffraction on Pro14n?

Hi, Looks like pixel bleeding to me. That is when high level light causes electrical charge to migrate thru the silicon to neighboring pixels which have a lower electrical charge because they have received less light. I know Kodak had real issues with the non-Kodak sensor (Fill Factory made IIRC) in...

Re: Power Supply FUJIX Nikon E2s

Hi, I open packs using a flat blade Xacto knife in the big fat handle. I use it like a chisel with a small ball peen hammer. This, along the seam between the two clamshell halves. A small vise to hold the pack comes in handy as well. You will have to use NiCd cells as the E2 charger with the round p...

Re: Kodak DCS 420 Wonderhealing?!

Hi, Welcome to the world of old/bad batteries! ;) Yeah. Doesn't work properly when the voltage is low. Pretty much par for the course. And, just using a voltmeter on a pack won't tell the whole story. You need to measure under maximum load. Batteries drop voltage as the load increases. Bad batteries...

Re: My last catch – a Kodak DCS Pro14n(x)

Hi, The x also means they installed the new, improved, sensor for the SLR/n. The whole thing was quite a mess at the time. Kodak might have been better off to stick with their own APS-H sensor, which was up to 10MP by then. IIRC, only Leica used it. I wonder just what goes on in the sensor over time...

Re: Nikon E-series serial numbers

Hi,

I just saw a Nikon E2N on eBay, serial 7200064. BiN 500 USD with Fujix 15 MB card and a battery (no charger, and untested due to no charger).

Re: What determines collectability?

Hi, OK. Found the FE and FA. FE still works, FA doesn't as it crinkled the shutter long ago. A quick trip to eBay and the FA has a defunct MD-15 motor drive and MF-12 data back. So, it is back to looking like what I carried all the time to document fire / rescue calls. I put the AI 50mm f1.8 lens on...

Re: Nikon Df

Hi, Well, we took our trip. Went to Sanibel Island in Florida. That is on the Gulf Coast. We took one day and walked thru half of the Ding Darling preserve. I had the Df with the 150-600 on a monopole and the 760c with the 28-105 on my shoulder. Shot mostly with the Df and the shots are quite good. ...

Re: What determines collectability?

Hi, Ok. I have joined you all as a Junior member. A Cub Collector, as it were. I have a bookcase in the living room with glass paneled doors. In it right now are my old F4, a D1H and the Nikon F5/Kodak 760c. Now I need another old E2, and a couple other old units to go with (FE, FA, D2H). Maybe some...
