Re: Nikon Df

Hi, So, the hunt continues. The used market seems somewhat odd. Very few out there and all in the $1600-2000 range. Most have quite a bit of use on them. Plus, that price isn't far below refurb cost ($2100) But, lately, seems there aren't many refurbs to be had, and they all seem to be Silver. I wan...

Re: Making a DSU from scratch for an orphan DCS100

Hi, I have seen many tantalum caps crap. They like to alter their Effective Series Resistance, which means they don't show physical signs and even measure capacitance ok. But, aren't ok. Sometimes they smoke, and sometimes they just make whatever they are in work wonky. Like all other electronic par...

Re: Making a DSU from scratch for an orphan DCS100

Hi,

I refer to that as: Crapped Caps. Most common malady of electronics. :(

Re: A Miracle? 21 years old batteries working!

Hi, Some Li-Ion batts have internal processors for keeping track of just where it is cycle-wise, and FET switches controlled by those processors to cut off current in and out. Some do not, requiring what they are installed in to perform that function. Phone batts can easily be either way. Which, is ...

Re: A Miracle? 21 years old batteries working!

Hi, Good thing it undercharges. Or, it'd puff up like week-old roadkill at the least. Li-Ion batteries have no sense of humor at all.... I have one I use for show and tell from the old Ericsson T68i phone, and it puffed up and split the plastic case. It was hurt during charging, but puffed up when i...

Re: A Miracle? 21 years old batteries working!

Hi, Good old NiCd batteries. Their lifespan is measured in charge/discharge cycles more than years. On top of that, the lower capacity ones last longer. The key there is lower capacity cells have better separator (insulation between the Ni and Cd) material. That helps prevent the metals from growing...

Re: Making a DSU from scratch for an orphan DCS100

Hi,

Yeah. Bad caps. I spend most of my repair time on those. Crapped Caps, as I refer to them. :P

Sounds like the rest of the project is going well. :)

Re: Nikon Df

Hi, Well, I have been playing 'catch-up' for the past month. Looking very hard at both the Df and the D3. There was a *lot* of things to sort thru in regards to the Df. It seems that there is a lot of confusion and even hate out there, much of it from folks that didn't bother to actually try one. Pl...

Re: Nikon Z looks a lot like an E series...

Hi, Hmmm. I don't see an AI ring on the adapter, and that is the usual Why Not for Non-AI lenses. With a full skirt, NAI damages the AI tab. This is why the Df takes NAI lenses. It has a flip-up tab. The only other DSLRs that can are those based on the F5 (Kodak), which was the last camera from Niko...

Nikon Z looks a lot like an E series...

Hi, ...with the F lens adapter on it. At least it does in all these pics of the thing I keep getting emails about. Am I the only one who sees a resemblance between a Z7 with an adapter and the E2? Maybe they are trying to get me to buy a new Z and an adapter and take side-by shots to post here? :P I...

Re: DCS 760M on the Bay

Hi,

This one has been listed for several cycles, at the higher price. This listing has the price lowered. So, you have seen this one before.

Stan

Edit: There was one other on there recently, and it was faulty. I don't think it sold, just ran out of time.

Re: DCS 760M on the Bay

Hi, I would say a 760m will outperform a 760c by a factor of 3 since there is no CFA on the sensor. Back when, I really wanted one for this reason. But, they were Unobtainium at the time, so I also went with a 760c and a plug-in. Now, I am lazy. That plug-in lets me play with virtual filters. A real...
