Re: Card/flash issues with DCS 760

I had flakey issues with a Dcs420 and a CF adapter when the battery started going bad.

Re: DCS-3 and DCS420 galleries on Flickr

I had some card formatting issues with my DCS420c. When I got it, it had a 2GB flash & PCMIAA card and it worked fine. When the battery pack started going south, the files stopped showing up on the card. The space was getting taken up, but nothing showed up in the directory. I was able to retrie...

Re: Nikon D2H goes to pieces

"If you’re curious like me, you’ve wondered what’s inside your camera, especially a pro DSLR. So, of course, I couldn’t resist the idea of a “teardown project” with this broken Nikon D2H. I really wanted to see if I was up to the task of replacing the shutter – get it working again, not just t...

Re: Leica M9 - love at first light (NikonWeb article)

That's really appealing to me. If it sold at around $400, I wouldn't hesitate. Unfortunately, it'll never reach that price, even on the used market. I spend a lot of time with a D40 using manual lenses. My ideal camera (one that covers 95% of what I like to do) would be something along the lines: D4...

Re: DCS Acquire vs ACR vs DCS 420

While messing around with IR lens filters yesterday I noticed that the viewfinder curtain thingy leaks badly as does the mirror when it's up. This is with 1-2" exposures and it's adding a full stop worth of light into the mix--mostly at the top and bottom of the frame. So far, the IR results ha...

Re: DCS Acquire vs ACR vs DCS 420

I've been using my 420c a bunch this past week (got a new battery and now it's gone from being laborious to simple). Are you pulling them from a card reader or via SCSI cable off the camera? I'd love to synch the clock in the camera. All my photos have a 1990 time/date stamp and you need the SCSI ca...

Re: Nikon D1x

I got one a couple months back on eBay; cheap. When it showed up, the LCD had weird spots under the glass, most of the rubber was peeling up. No battery or charger. When I looked into the viewfinder, something was badly amiss--it took me about 5 minutes to figure out that the focus screen was gone. ...

Re: some dcs experience

I was starting to have all sorts of card issues. The camera would give me errors on some and the XP machine couldn't see image files on any of them. I had to use a recovery program to get my images. I was also seeing a horizontal bar at the top of the photo. The battery was also taking only 5 min to...

Re: Early DCS infrared hack

I've found that the hot mirror makes a huge difference (but at times, I like to take it off).

Re: Kodak DCS 460 (which lens?)

The hot mirror makes a huge difference on the 420c that I have. I guess I got lucky--the local shop had one used for $12.

The N90s takes AI and later lenses (and AI converted ones). The 55mm micro is a favorite on mine for the 420c (with 2.6x crop).

Re: Just got a DCS-420c

I think the CF card is expiring, which might be tied to the reformat I did from my XP machine. Generally speaking, you should always format your memory cards in camera, not on a computer. From the DCS manual: "Your PCMCIA card must be (DOS) formatted by the camera." Jarle Yep. I'm looking...

Re: Just got a DCS-420c

Looks like I spoke too soon. I think the CF card is expiring, which might be tied to the reformat I did from my XP machine. The card's available room goes down, but there are no files showing up, so I had to go through a couple different utilities before I found one that would pick up the .tif files...

Re: Just got a DCS-420c

The more I use this camera, the more impressed I am with it. There's so much about it that I really like: 1. It's a film camera with one button for digital stuff--no menus!! :D 2. It's reaaaaaally sharp! 3. Some really interesting colors in sunlight conditions (like faded film prints). http://farm4....

Just got a DCS-420c

I saw an offer on Craigslist for a DCS-420c in my area for $80 and after a little research, quickly became fascinated enough to take a first hand look. I have been using a Nikon D40x for about a year with strictly manual lenses (non metering) and this big old camera really appealled to me. The selle...
