Re: Oldest Kodak DSLRs rescued!
Was the "imager in a case with a fixed lens" possibly the Videk Megaplus machine vision camera? It was the first commercial device with the M1 megapixel sensor. It was a digital camera, but had to be connected to a computer. It was available around the time we did the first DSLRs. http://u...

Oldest Kodak DSLRs rescued!
Last week, a friend tracked down and rescued a box of old cameras just days before they were to be trashed. In that box was a Tactical Camera (the second DSLR), and a Hawkeye II Integrated camera (the first Nikon body DSLR). These cameras had been in a display case at Kodak's Hawkeye Plant for a lon...

Re: Professional Camera Back - DCS 100 predecessor
Interesting to see photo taken on 2009-10-24 - Perhaps a show? Note different finger grip to DCS 100, vertical arrangement on DSU, smaller screen, trap door below keypad allowing something to be plugged in (about the shape of a PCMCIA HDD...) This is the prototype/demonstrator for the DCS(100). We ...

Re: World's first DSLR. Made by Eastman Kodak Company in 1987.
Good news this week! A friend rescued a box of the old cameras just days before they would have been in the dumpster. I now have dismantled on my bench a Tactical camera http://eocamera.jemcgarvey.com/img/TAC1s.jpg , and a Hawkeye II Integrated camera http://eocamera.jemcgarvey.com/img/HEI1s.jpg (Th...

Re: Kodak DCS 560 plays pong
No, I didn't save the Tetris code.
Starting with the 520, the DCS firmware was all written in C.
Earlier camera firmware was in PL/M, Intel's language for microcontrollers.

Re: Kodak DCS 560 plays pong
When we did the 620, I wanted a different game that would work with the 4 way rocker instead of the 520's dial, so I had Tetris coded and working before I found out that the owners are very strict about licensing. I put in the image tile puzzle instead. Very disappointing...

Re: History of Kodak DCS-System (Kodak contact info?)
Ulrich, Jarle called my attention to this thread. I'll try to help you, though my time is limited. With the DCS100, the first step is to check all the connectors - there are a lot of them - but particularly the plug-in cards in the DSU chassis. Remove and replug those as they can work loose. Loose d...

Re: DCS3c EOS1n Schematic diagrams? Service manuals? Hacks?
I'm checking to see whether schematics or other info can be released. But meanwhile, I can tell you that the EOS1n body from your EOS-DCS camera has special firmware in it to talk to the DCS back firmware (I know, I wrote the DCS side). Even if you did the physical mods to a standard EOS1n body, and...

Re: OT: Canon D2000
A few answers... All DCS camera models, including the DCS5XX series, were built in Rochester. You could say that they were 'hand assembled' but in a modern and efficient assembly process. There were a number of operators, but each camera was assembled and calibrated by one operator. Cameras were not...
