Re: Professional Camera Back - DCS 100 predecessor

BTW, JR, I just added my DCS645M and DCS720x to your DCS serial no. survey page. Mine seems to be the earliest (to date) of the listed Mamiya-mount DCS645 backs, and in the mid-range of the DCS720x cameras.

Re: Professional Camera Back - DCS 100 predecessor

I think I've found an image of the CCD/board, (I can't remember where though...) http://i165.photobucket.com/albums/u72/precertvideo/DCS-100_4.jpg Notice how all the film-advance sprockets and takeup spool are still in situ in the body! That's how people always pictured how a 35mm "digital bac...

Re: Kodak DCS 620x

Most RAW converters are apparently based on Dave Coffin's dcraw engine. I've found that dcraw knows how to decode the DCS 720x files, and apparently knows how to handle the CMY colour array too...see http://mulebakken.net/div/dcraw/dcraw-development.txt : "Thanks to Kodak, I now support greysca...

Re: New member - New DCS 720x!

Stan, Thanks for sharing your story. The Leica comes not from wanting so many of their lenses over the good old Nikkor manual ones I have, but for the fact that the DMR uses the 10MP 4th generation Kodak sensor. I think it's even one turn of the development crank beyond the latest of the Pro Back on...

Re: Kodak DCS 620x

Nice one, Bas. You got a great deal, considering that all the stuff to power it was included. I recently got a DCS 720x, and am similarly in that happy state. :) What are you going to use yours for? Mine is delivering well on indoor ambient-lighting people shots. Early astro shots are promising too.

Re: Crazy or fate?

That's a good story. I think it was a win for all concerned: the charity got some cash, some browsing members of the public got to see some pieces of photographic history (whether they realised it or not!), and through that extended period of introspection, you learned something profound about yours...

Re: New member - New DCS 720x!

Stan, Interesting that you use both a 560 and a 760c. I would have thought that they overlap to such an extent that only one would be needed. You should, if you can, get a Pro Back. Very different beast to Leica digital, but unless you have that mysterious 6th sense that some people claim to have fo...

View all of Kodak's original DCS webpages, from 1994 on

I know that Ashley Pomeroy is a member here, and his blog was very interesting to me in researching the DCS cameras. One of his links takes you to an instance of DCS information in "Wayback Machine", an internet archiver. I was amazed to find that I could use this to explore nearly all of ...

Re: New member - New DCS 720x!

Jarle, where in Norway are you? In the south of Scandinavia you tend to get at least some continental high-pressure systems, which keep the clouds at bay. In Ireland we are too far removed from the continent to get these. Have a look at http://home.cc.umanitoba.ca/~jander/clouds/globalclouds.html - ...

New member - New DCS 720x!

Hi folks! Just got my registration activated at last (thanks Jarle!). This is my first post. I've read a lot here already. I think a quick personal photographic history is in order, by way of introducing myself. The first "real" camera I ever picked up and used was my older brother's Nikon...
